The return of the 525 cross lakes experience

Explore the western shores of Windermere with Windermere Lake Cruises and Mountain Goat

Start your day at Bowness Pier, where you’ll hop aboard with Windermere Lake Cruises. Cross the lake in style, soaking in the views as you head towards Ash Landing.

Once you disembark, you’ll meet the Mountain Goat minibus, ready to take you up through the quiet lanes and lush countryside to Near Sawrey, the village where children’s author Beatrix Potter made her home. A visit to Hill Top, her beloved farmhouse, is like stepping into the pages of her stories, perfect for fans of Peter Rabbit. Discover how the Lake District inspired Beatrix to fall in love with farming and conservation, as she set about buying land and farms to preserve for future generations.

Before heading on, why not pop into the nearby Tower Bank Arms. This charming pub is full of character and a great spot to enjoy a pint of something local.

Next, it’s back on the bus and onward to the picture perfect village of Hawkshead. This historic gem is bursting with charm. Wander the cobbled streets, explore the shops, and pick up some delicious Grasmere Gingerbread or treats from Hawkshead Relish.

History fans will love the Old Grammar School, where William Wordsworth once attended. There are plenty of places to grab some lunch, visit one of the thriving pubs and cafes scattered around the village.

When it’s time to head back, rejoin the Mountain Goat bus to return to Ash Landing, but don’t rush! If time allows, take a gentle stroll to Claife Viewing Station.

Before catching your boat back to Bowness, stop in at Joey’s Café for a well earned coffee to admire those views. Then hop back on the boat and make your way back to Bowness.
